The hands-on clinician who built this practice — and is still the person many families call first when something feels off with their pet.

Dr. Christian Keller
Founding Owner & Vet
Dr. Keller opened The Mountain Hospital for Animals in 1991 with a simple idea — that a small practice can be a serious one. Three decades later, he's still the person many Lookout Mountain families call first when something feels off with their pet.
His patients range from the routine — annual exams for the family dog or cat — to the unusual — a parrot, a tortoise, a bearded dragon, and yes, on many occasions, the wildlife of the Appalachian South. Whatever walks (or hops, or slithers) through the door, the philosophy is the same:
Outside the clinic, Dr. Keller also cares for the animals at the Tennessee Aquarium — work that spans the same wide spectrum, from finned to furred.
At The Mountain Hospital for Animals, animals always come first.

How We Work
What Makes Our Veterinary Practice Different
Time to Listen
We block enough time in every appointment to actually talk about what's going on — your questions, your pet's history, what you're seeing at home.
Hands-On Care
From wellness exams to harder cases, the same small team sees your animal through. Continuity matters when something's wrong.
Every Species, Honestly
If we can help, we will — and if a case is outside what we can safely handle, we'll tell you straight and help you find the right next step.
